WEEK IN REVIEW
Last week’s Gfinity had a lot of interesting results and a few upsets, but this week’s went far closer to plan for the major teams.
FlipSid3 Tactics, having been demoted to #2 in the EU power rankings following their 3rd round exit last week, had a lot to prove this week. They didn’t have a particularly easy run, either. The new-look Supersonic Avengers and Crown & Jewels (formerly PeaceHater) stood between them and the final, but they didn’t have too much trouble getting past either, 3-1 being the score line in both games.
SK Gaming didn’t have too easy a path to the finals either. They fell in the semi finals last week to myXMG, but they get their own back with a 3-1 quarter final win this time around. To get there, SK had already registered a dominant victory over Noble eSports in the fourth round with a three game sweep. Their semi-final against Comrade Gaming didn’t cause them too many problems either, which set up a Flipsid3 Tactics vs SK Gaming final.
SK were looking to solidify their #1 spot, and FlipSid3 were looking to take it back. Without many other major tournaments on over the weekend, there was an air of expectation that the winner of this match would probably take the top spot, and FlipSid3 eventually ran out 4-2 winners.
ESL EU Cup #20
The ESL EU Cup seems to have become the sole property of Crown & Jewels of late. Only two teams are better than them if you agree with the power rankings, and those teams (FlipSid3 and SK) rarely participate in ESL tournaments. Six victories later, largely against lesser known teams, the #1 seeds were in the final.
Aside from Crown & Jewels, there were quite a few contenders. Supersonic Avengers have been performing very well of late, but they suffered an unexpected RO16 defeat to Manteca_FC. Team Rocket lost to Swedish team Underkovert in the same round, and last week’s finalists The 3 Musketeers lost out to Wrecking RL too. Spectral fell to No Idea and myXMG lost to the eventual finalists Gold Rush.
As was possibly expected, Crown & Jewels took the final with a clear-cut 4-1 victory and won their 4th ESL EU Cup in a row.

#1 FlipSid3 Tactics: Markydooda / Kuxir97 / M1k3rules | Up 1
Last week Flipsid3 found themselves smacked down to the number 2 spot like some lowly peasants after a pretty sub par (and not even in HD) performance. However, this week they pulled themselves together and won GFinity yet again, after a 4-2 victory over SK Gaming. They’re basically playing pat-a-cake with SK for GFinity wins at the moment. Will F3 remain at the number 1 spot next week? Yeah, probably, I don’t know. Why are you asking me? It’s not like I’m some power rankings committee member or anything. -Doomsee
#2 SK Gaming: X3MW / Dadooh / JHZER / Yemen | Down 1
After a brief stint at #1 last week, SK Gaming find themselves dropping a spot and landing at #2 this week. Overall, they had a fairly solid showing this past week with wins against Comrade Gaming (3-1), Noble eSports (3-0), Galactic Lions (3-0), and Team Apex (3-0). However, their losses to FlipSid3 Tactics (2-4) and Crown & Jewels (1-3) are enough to flip them back to the #2 slot. At this point, SK & F3 are extremely close and will likely continue to show this in their match-ups. Their time alone at the top may be short lived, however, if Crown & Jewels keeps improving at the rate they have been over the past month. -CloudFuel
#3 Crown & Jewels: Paschy90 / xGodLiightx / Killerno7 / Sikiicem | —
What’s in a name? All it takes is consistency, and Crown & Jewels has that in spades. Following up on last week’s showcase performances, the former PeaceHater team has moved on to repeat in ESL as Europe Cup Champions yet again. With the RLC Pro League Qualifiers on the horizon, this will be C&J’s time to truly shine and prove that they can hang with the big dogs. I expect them to fare well in Sunday’s qualification tournament and move on to a bigger challenge with the Pro League regular season itself. -Shalthis
#4 myXMG: al0t / Sniperkid138 / Turbopolsa | —
myXMG had a challenging week this week, looking as though they may be making some headway in the rankings only to have relatively decent results. While they remain steadfast at the number 4 spot, competition is heating up in EU and myXMG needs to figure out some consistency to their wins – in particular, more of them. If myXMG can start earning some solid, high-level wins, I can see them encroaching on that #3 spot and start making life interesting for the top two dogs. -Shalthis
#5 Noble eSports: Skyline / Vogan / Stocki1997 / Oneill_Clan / Meeps | —
There hasn’t been much movement in the 3, 4, and 5 spots, and Noble eSports maintains for a second week in a row. Without any serious losses on their plate nor any serious wins, the Noble team seems to be struggling just a bit with finding their footing as we go into this weekend’s RLC Pro League Qualifiers. While I still expect Noble to qualify, depending on their performance – and the performance of their opponents – they may find themselves on the cusp. Noble is the kind of team that does exceptionally well but now and then can be overtaken, and there isn’t much of a margin for error on Sunday. -Shalthis
#6 Gold Rush: Desgadelhado / Scrub Killa / Lunation | Up 2
This week saw an intensive trial period with recent free agent I Am A Tree for Gold Rush, and I have to say, not too shabby, Gold Rush, not too shabby. Whilst GFinity saw a very early exit for them with a Round 1 loss vs. Steel Gaming, they came back, thirty for blood, on Sunday’s ESL Go4 Rocket League Extremely Narly Extravaganza #88,281. They made their way to the finals, taking out some notable names along the way, including inXtremis RL and myXMG in two 3-0 matches, until they fell 4-1 to Crown & Jewels. The very impressive ESL run and the 3-0 win over myXMG certainly helped bump them up the rankings. Will they continue with I Am A Tree? Find out in next week’s issue of Rocket League Today. -Doomsee
#7 Supersonic Avengers: ELMP / gReazy / Maestro / Snaski | Down 1
After a very impressive showing last week that quickly propelled the Supersonic Avengers up into last week’s Power Rankings, the expectations were fairly high going in to this past week. Although SA didn’t really have any questionable losses, they also didn’t really have many significant wins aside from a 3-0 over Bag of Miracles. They’ll be tested this upcoming weekend, though, and could do very well for themselves in respect to Power Rankings positioning should they defeat their opponents and qualify for the RLC Pro League. -CloudFuel
#8 Comrade Gaming: Blackyz / O.S.P / Musketeers /Juuksey | New
For the past few weeks Comrade Gaming has lived on the cusp of the Top 10, falling just short every week until now. After a very strong showing in the RLC Pro League Open Qualifier and a solid effort in Gfinity, my pick for team to watch last week clearly showed that they were deserving of a spot in this week’s Top 10. Winning against teams such as the now disbanded YouMyZero (3-0), Gold Rush (3-0), Lose Much Rating (3-2), Interstellar Overdrive (3-1), inXtremisRL (3-0), and Galactic Lions (3-1) are enough to give them this week’s #8 spot and the #9 seed in this weekend’s RLC Pro League Qualifier. There they will truly be tested as they square off against some of the best teams that EU has to offer. This could be a make or break weekend for Comrade Gaming, where a few big wins could potentially rocket them up even higher in the Top 10. -CloudFuel
#9 Team Rocket: Doomsee / Cole / Wrong_Way_Woody | Up 1
Aside from the 3-2 win over a Spectral team that has lately not been playing up to the standard we’ve come to expect, Team Rocket didn’t have much going for them. They had 1 loss to a bit of an unknown team (Underkovert) that features some players who have been around the community for a while, but didn’t have many other matches beyond that. Without more matches to go off of, it’s hard to tell where Team Rocket belongs especially with their newest addition, Wrong_Way_Woody. They’ll have an opportunity to make a name for themselves this weekend, but this could also potentially prove to be detrimental to their place in the Top 10 should they fall to teams currently ranked below them. With so many new teams showing potential, Team Rocket will need to prove that they’re still among the best of EU to keep their streak of 15 straight weeks on the Power Rankings alive. -CloudFuel
#10 Spectral: TJShorty / Dkyhnee / remkoe | Down 3
Spectral have been slowly falling off a cliff for the past few weeks, where they’ve gone from an impressive 4th place to a dangerously low 10th. This week saw the biggest drop for the team, being bumped down from 7th. During GFinity they lost in the Ro32 3-2 to Team Rocket, and during ESL they lost in the Ro16. Who did they lose to? No idea. -Doomsee
